BUSH REMEDIES USED BY THE ABORIGINES: WATTLE (ACACIA) SUNSHINE WATTLE – TRADITIONAL MEDICINAL

Wattle (acacia) Sunshine Wattle – traditional medicinal use The Sunshine Wattle is antiseptic, consolidating, tightening. About one handful of inner bark of the young branches is cooked in one litre of water. The liquid is used once a day for scabies, sore eyes by washing the affected areas with the liquid. The bark of young roots is chopped into small pieces, mixed with hot water and left brewing for several days, until the infusion has a dark red or black colour. This preparation is put on ulcers and burns but is also taken internally as medicine against complaints in the stomach and intestines.

Long strips of the root are soaked in water and are placed on fractures and as a dressing on injuries. The resin is mixed water and used as an ointment to treat ulcers and bums. Scabies are washed with a weak solution. A powder made from ground dry resin is used for the treatment of cuts and open ulcers.
