ALL ABOUT MARRIAGE: A GOOD CURE FOR DEPRESSION

If you ever become depressed, if you feel that life is passing you by, or if you feel that you are not making the grade, that your difficulties and oppressions are simply overwhelming, may I suggest reading the Books of Psalms, or Proverbs, or Christ’s Sermon on the Mount in Matthew.

Let me make it perfectly clear: I am not a minister of religion, and I am no fanatical religionist. I am just a doctor who has been around for quite a few years practicing my profession. But I do gain a tremendous amount of help, in all facets of life, from a daily reading of the Scriptures, ideally from one of the modern translations. (I personally prefer The Living Bible, which is a simple, understandable paraphrase of the Scriptures; or the ‘ ‘Good News Bible,” which is also an up-to-date translation that is readily understood—what’s more, it can be cheaply bought nearly anywhere in paperback.)

If you are glum and gloomy, the world seems against you, things fail, and your hopes are falling apart, try this solution. You will get so much simple, positive encouragement that your problems will tend to vanish. Do this last thing at night before you put the light out, and you will quickly slip into quiet, refreshing repose. And during the night, what you have read will churn around in your subconscious mind, and more than likely throw the answer into your conscious mind soon after awakening next day.

I’m serious! I have used this very valuable system so many times over the years that I now rely heavily on it. It rarely fails. If you have any doubts, just try it and see.

So, accept religion in its true concept, the way it was designed. Christianity is not meant to be a complicated system. It was designed for the man in the street. That was who Christ was preaching to on the mount. That includes us all.
